WHAT'S INTERESTING ABOUT THIS CONCERT

  • J. Williams is the most decorated movie composer ever. He was awarded six Oscar awards, 26 Grammy awards, and seven British Academy film awards.
  • J. Williams was also a very prolific composer of traditional, stage orchestral music. His works include a cello concerto premiered by Yo-Yo Ma, a violin concerto premiered by Anne Sophie Mutter and a horn concerto premiered by Chicago symphony principal player Dave Clevenger.
  • This concert features the largest orchestra of this season’s concerts; featuring extended string and brass section, additional percussion instruments, and a rarely used contrabassoon (the lowest sounding instrument of a symphony orchestra).
