WHAT'S INTERESTING ABOUT THIS CONCERT

  • The second movement of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony is one of the most beautifully haunting melodic examples of orchestral music. It has been featured in a long line of movies including The King’s Speech (2010), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), Mr. Holland’s Opus (1995) and Parade of the Planets (1984).
  • The British rock group Pink Floyd was a notable innovator of traditional rock and roll style. The group experimented with new timbres, used classical instruments and recorded long extended vocal – instrumental compositions modeled on larger classical forms.
  • In his original treatment of “Roll Over Beethoven” Andrew Lipke combines the original Chuck Berry’s materials with motives borrowed from Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, creating an artistic bridge between the parts of the program.
